We’ve known for some time now that fatty fish oil is beneficial to our health, but getting the right type of fish and one which has lots of the right essential omega 3 fatty acids is crucial.

Many fish are good like salmon, tuna and mackerel but one type in particular stands head and shoulders above the rest – the hoki from New Zealand!

The fatty fish oil from these and hoki in particular are high in the essential omega 3 fatty acids which provide so many health benefits. They are the good polyunsaturated fats that over 90% of us are deficient in as the body can’t make them!

Unfortunately, most of our fresh fish today contain high levels of contaminants like lead and mercury so it’s not advisable to eat more than one portion a week and many come from farms significantly lowering the amount of omega 3 they contain.

The two main fats you want are DHA and EPA and it’s the DHA that provides you with most of the many health benefits.

These benefits include prevention of heart disease and strokes, enhanced brain health and mental well-being along with many others including better eyesight and help in the fight against prostate and breast cancer.

Experts agree that because of the contamination in fresh fatty fish oil, a daily fish oil supplement will provide the best solution as you can control the purity and amount you want to take.

A molecularly distilled oil is recommended unless it is proven to be free of contaminants as you can then be assured that all the toxins have been removed and this process increases the omega 3 content considerably as well.

Obviously you want to get a high amount of DHA so look for at least 270mg in each supplement to reap the full rewards.

As I mentioned earlier, the hoki from New Zealand is the very best one as it is naturally high in the DHA fats and has no contamination and actually when combined with distilled tuna oil will give you over twice the anti-inflammatory benefits of normal oil.

I hope you can see the many health benefits that the right fatty fish oil can bring, helping you to maintain optimal health for now and in the future too.

Fish oil pills are big business. In fact sales of fish oil pills, or what can be known as Omega 3 capsules or even as omega 3 supplements, are growing faster than any other nutritional supplement in history. Lets have a look at why and consider whether you should also be taking daily supplements of omega 3.

There are 2 essential fatty acids known as omega 3 fatty acids. These are called DHA (docosahexaenoic acid) and EPA (eicosapentaenoic acid), and they are good fats. Contrary to what you may have heard about diet fats in your diet are not all bad.

There are some bad fats, in particular saturated fat which is primarily found in animal products such as red meat and chicken. However there are also good fats which are extremely important to your health. The omega 3 fatty acids called essential fatty acids are extremely important to your health and are not manufactured in your body. Therefore the only way you can get Omega 3 fatty acids into you is by taking fish oil pills, or eating a lot of fish.

Estimates are that the vast majority of people in the US have way too little essential fatty acids in their diet. Studies have shown that populations of people who eat lots of fish are healthier, and in particular have better heart health than so many of our citizens and studies have linked this good heart health to their high intake of fish and other seafood products.

There’s a wide range of health benefits from increasing your intake of essential fatty acids. These health benefits include improvments in heart health and these are now recognized by the American Heart Association which recommends minimum intakes of DHA and EPA for each of us every week. They suggest eating more fish or else taking Omega 3 capsules.

The health benefits include a reduced risk of death from heart disease and heart attack, lowering triglycerides, lowering blood pressure and reducing the build of plaque in the arteries. Other health benefits include an improvement in brain function and memory, a reduction in the risk of macular degeneration causing blindness in older age and a reduction in a range of inflammatory diseases such as arthritis and lots lots more.

There is also ample evidence that pregnant women should be taking Omega 3 supplements because DHA and EPA, and in particular DHA, is an essential part of brain development and that if pregnant women are DHA deficient this can negatively affect the brain development of the fetus. Equally it is important for breastfeeding women to supplement with DHA and EPA because these become available to the infant through the breastmilk, and are important to the infant for the same reason. Studies show that children with an adequate supply of Omega3 fats through their developmental years do better on IQ tests.

Clearly we should all be increasing our intake of DHA and EPA, but how do you do that? Eating more fish is one option. However fish is very expensive and there are only certain fish which have high levels of these essential fatty acids. And fish is generally contaminated with nasty toxins such as PCBs, mercury, pesticides and various heavy metals and the EPA tells us not to eat too much fish because of this.

However fish oil pills offer the perfect solution. These are small capsules of fish oil which can be taken easily. For children it is simply a matter of cutting the top off the capsule and tipping the oil onto their food. The best fish oil pills are entirely contamination free and a much more cost-effective than eating fish, and can safely be taken daily.

Note that not all Omega 3 capsules are as good as others and the best fish oil supplements contain way more of the active ingredient DHA than the worst.

I supplement my diet, and the diet of my family, with Omega3 supplements every day. I use what I consider to be by far the best fish oil pills on the market. To find out which these are visit my website.

When it comes to a daily fish oil intake level, many factors come into play. What is more important though than the actual amount you take is the quality of the oil itself. However much of a poor quality supplement you take, you will still receive little or no health benefits. Here’s how to avoid that.

As a rough guide, 1 or 2g a day is a good of a pure distilled oil, but it’s important to bear in mind the levels of omega 3 fats within the oil as these are the ones that provide all the benefits.

DHA and EPA are the two most effective ones with DHA recently being shown to provide most of the health benefits, so the first thing is to look at the individual amounts.

For example my fish oil intake is two capsules a day, each one containing 1000mg of oil of which 280mg is DHA and 120mg is EPA, so I get almost 1000mg or 1g of omega 3 a day.

You will find that most oils have a much lower level of DHA so it pays to find the ones with a 2:1 ratio of DHA to EPA otherwise you will not get the full benefits, especially where brain and heart health are concerned.

A quality oil will be molecularly distilled to remove the toxins from the fish unless it is proven to be completely free from any contamination. The only one today to have that distinction is the Hoki fish from New Zealand as the waters are still pristine.

Although it is not really possible to overdose on fish oil, there is little benefit in taking very high does which I have seen some companies advertise, like 10,000mg. After a certain point, the body has enough omega 3 and cannot use the rest so unless you have a serious pre-existing condition like heart disease or severe arthritis, the daily fish oil intake that I have shown is enough.

If you do have a severe condition then doubling the dose I have shown to 4 capsules a day should be enough.

So as you can see, many factors can influence the potential health benefits from this wonderful oil, with the daily fish oil intake being just one of them.

High potency fish oil seems to have become more popular recently as a means of accelerating the many amazing benefits to be had from this amazing oil. However, caution is needed because if the oil is not pure or contains the wrong levels of the most important fatty acids, then whatever the potency, it will fail to deliver.

A good high potency fish oil will have high levels of the most important fatty acid, DHA. This is responsible for most of the health benefits and tends to be lacking from most supplements as they still have higher levels of the less useful one, EPA.

Over 30% of our brain is composed of DHA fats to give you an idea of how important they are and a recent breakthrough by British and American scientists revealed how DHA is converted into a chemical called resolvin D2 which has exceptional anti-inflammatory qualities to help prevent heart disease and treat arthritis.

The supplement I personally take contains 1000mg of oil of which 280mg is DHA and 120mg is EPA and I take the recommended two a day.

Always look for at least twice the amount of DHA compared to EPA if you want to realize the maximum potential of this wonderful and natural oil.

The best ones will be molecularly distilled to remove the poisons from the fish and this process can actually increase the omega 3 content by up to three times as well.

Purity is essential for the anti-inflammatory benefits and you can check this simply by opening up a capsule and smelling – there should just be a faint ocean aroma and no more otherwise it is stale or rancid oil.

This can occur due to poor handling and processing procedures and will severely limit the benefits you can get.

I hope this article enables you to find a genuine high potency fish oil to allow you to enjoy all the many benefits without any of the risk.

Let me assure you suffering from high blood pressure and cholesterol is no fun at all — I have been taking medication for both of these problems for many years.

It is probably too late for me to get off them now, however changing to a superior brand of fish oil supplements 6 months ago has helped reduce both my blood pressure and cholesterol level a little bit.

It is pretty much beyond doubt omega-3 DHA and EPA fatty acids benefit your body and mind in many ways.

None more so than by helping to improve arterial health by reducing triglycerides and balancing HDL and LDL cholesterol better. Naturally having an improved blood flow reduces our risk of getting blood clots from clogged arteries that can result in a heart attack or stroke.

Arguably the best way to get more fish oil in your diet is to eat oily fish 2 to 3 times a week.

Unfortunately this solution usually turns out to be easier said than done, we start out with good intentions of buying fresh fish each week but often don’t get around to it. Then of course there is the cost issue… 30 years ago fish was cheap to buy — but those days are long gone.

For many years now I have been taking fish oil supplements daily. However it’s only been in the last six months that I realized buying the cheapest ones, and not fully understanding the real issues has meant that I haven’t been getting the most benefits from taking them — which I should have got.

When I became interested in researching fish oil supplements I soon realized the amount of fatty acids in each soft gel is the most important ingredient. Also it became apparent that having almost double the amount of DHA to EPA omega-3 fatty acid ratio was equally as important.

Seriously think about consuming more fish oil, based on the hundreds of scientific and clinical tests conducted over the last few years, it’s pretty much beyond doubt omega-3 fatty acids are very beneficial in helping to control and improve both your blood pressure and cholesterol balance.

If your interested to understand and find out more about fish oil blood pressure and the omega-3 fatty acids I now take daily, visit my website below.
